It is fair to say that in the 1980’s this manufacturer, that had been around since the 1910’s, was finding expansion rather difficult. In 1986 the FIAT group bought Alfa Romeo and in 1987 merged it with it’s Lancia brand, moving to a brand new purpose built complex in Arese.

This period in time has proved to be the catalyst in the re-juvenation of the Alfa brand. They have enjoyed numerous successes since, with the 1990’s seeing the birth of the Alfa 155, 145, 146 and the sporty GTV Coupe and Soft top Spider. The decade ended on a high note with the newly launched Alfa 156, Car of the Year 1998, which scooped over 30 international awards.

Alfa Romeo car insurance can be reasonably expensive as their insurance groups are relatively high, all are currently group 11+ with the GTV and Spider being 16 and 17 respectively.
