Reliant

No longer producing passenger vehicles, Reliant is a British legend mainly because of the Reliant Robin, a famous three wheel model made known to many from TV shows such as Only Fools and Horses and Mr. Bean.

These were produced until 2001 ending with a special commemorative, individually numbered release. Reliant was founded in 1935 by T.L. Williams who had worked for Raleigh . Apparently he had to come up with a name that began with the letter ‘r’ because he began manufacturing his cars by using old Raleigh parts with the letter ‘r’ printed on them. The first car he produced was a three wheeler and he made several more three wheel models before the famous Robin. Strangely enough his four wheel models, and there have been a few, have never gained the interest or affection which has been showered upon the quirkier three wheeled models. There are numerous companies and clubs devoted to maintaining and celebrating Reliants and certainly a few used Reliants available on the market for those who want own a piece of eccentric British motor history.
