Where can I find cheap van insurance?

Van Insurance, sometimes referred to as commercial vehicle insurance, has surprisingly not been made available online from a lot of insurance companies and intermediaries.

Most of the online quotation engines will only allow you to input the vehicle details of a car. Pick-ups also fall into this category, as they are also classed as commercial vehicles, so you will find that the insurers listed on our main quotation page will not provide quote for this form of four wheel drive.

Pick-ups are becoming increasingly popular, as they are these days more car like a drive and a lot now come with a twin cab option, effectively making them a four door vehicle! The reason they are so popular is because they are, at the time of writing, classed the same as a van and are therefore exempt from company car tax. The Mitsubishi and Nissan pick-up are some of the most popular in the UK roads today.

So, getting back to Van Insurance, many people have the need to own a van, none more so than people who work in the building trade. The ford transit van is one of the most popular of all time, but some prefer the Nissan for it’s longer length loading capabilities. The Daihatsu Hijet is also an extremely popular van and has in fact won the What Car? Microvan of the year award for a staggering nine successive years!

You will find that online van insurance quotation engines will ask very similar questions to that of a car quotation engine. A few additional bits of information are needed, such as the load capacity and gross vehicle weight of the van. As you would expect, most insurers also want to know if you intend to carry toxic or hazardous good.

Insurance for vans does usually work our quote expensive when compared to a car. The fact that the market for this form of insurance is so much smaller is a big contributor to this fact, less competition means insurers do not have to slash their rates as much. The nature of use of most vans is also very different to cars, they are working vehicles which more than likely cover a much greater annual mileage, are driven by a lot of different people and are generally not going to be cared for as much as somebody’s car.
