Volkswagen was formed in 1938 and was the result of Adolf Hitler’s desire for a ‘people’s car.’ In 1933 Hitler met with Porsche to explain his desire for a car which would not cost a full year’s wages, which would carry 5 people, get 33mpg and cruise at 62mph.
The
result was a car which eventually became the VW Beetle. Today VW has a
reputation for quality German engineering but still affordable. They currently
produce 10 models of cars in hatchbacks, estates, saloons, and convertibles.
Prices start at £7,000, but for the person who wants a little more luxury
there are models priced at up to £70,000.
